"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this."  - Isaiah 9:6-7 Have you ever looked at a painting and the more you look at it, the more detail you see? Or how about a movie? Have you ever looked at a movie, or read a book, or verse of scripture, or a Bible story, and every time you look at or read it, you pick up on details you missed before? I don't know about you, but those moments for me are like finding treasures. They open up new perspectives, new understandings, new insights! This week, I have been enjoying attending virtually an online seminar entitled Messiah. The

"But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works." -Psalm 73:28 This week, the world watched in shock as the frantic search for five passengers aboard a missing submersible vessel named the Titan ended in the discovery that it had already self-destructed in a tragic implosion. It is deeply ironic that this same vessel had gone in search of the sunken ship, the Titanic which had also met a tragic end on April 15, 1912. While there are many mixed emotions about the recent tragedy, my attention can't help but return to the historical demise of the SS Titanic. Maybe it was because of its size, or the idea of the rich and famous being on board that attracted so much attention, or maybe it was the hype surrounding the new ship, with someone famously boasting that "not even God could sink this ship" . Maybe it was the subsequent namesake movie made that helped to further immortalize its story in our me

"Because you are His sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” - Galatians 4:6 This weekend, fathers are in the spotlight for appreciation. Sometimes, we as children take a lot for granted. It is only when we take some time to sit back and reflect, we realize just how much we really have. I am taking this opportunity to publicly say thank you to my dad. Thank you for being a committed provider the best way you knew how. He always thought of us, to provide food, shelter, clothing, education and support. Thank you dad for the part you played the best way you knew how in nurturing in us a love for God and His Word. He would engage us as children, in little challenges in memorizing hymns, psalms and other portions of scripture, and reward us when we were able to. Thank you for seeing education as not only academic but also spiritual also. Thank you dad for displaying and modeling values such as responsibility, independence, educati

At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”  -1 Kings 3: 5-15 This week I wished upon a star. Well, it happened this way. I had just finished a conversation, and then glanced up at the sky. Next thing I know, I saw a shooting star. A pretty common phenomenon, I imagine, but for the average person, it isn't a regular sight as we don't look up as much, so when we see one, we are intrigued.  The concept of wishing on a star originated from Ptolemy, a Greek astronomer from back in the day who reasoned that a shooting star was a sign from the gods that they were listening to your wishes and ready to grant them. While it is a whimsical move, I found myself without thinking, making a wish for the first thing that came to my mind. It surprised me actually, what first came to my mind to wish for in that very moment. Afterward, it had me reflecting. What if it really did come through... is that what I rea

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am! Send me." - Isaiah 6:8 Have you ever seen God? I am not saying it is impossible but I imagine that this would be a very holy and reverent experience. While this privilege may not be given to any and everyone, the Bible does record that very few persons have seen God face to face, such as Adam and Moses. Several others though were able to see Him in vision. The prophet Isaiah was one such person. He says at the start of chapter 6, "I saw the Lord", who he goes on to further describe as seated on the throne, and surrounded by angels. What an impactful scene it must have been for him, a mortal man. He was humbled, convicted, and his heart forever won over. We can tell this because after his encounter of being purified and empowered, and then the brief exchange as seen in tonight's verse of scripture, Isaiah was eager and willing to do whatever
