"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." - 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18 Have you ever heard someone testify of a smooth road, paved with the blessings of everything in their life aligning at the expected place and time, someone who has need of nothing, and door after door was opened for them where they found favour and advancement, and they attribute it as evidence of the goodness of God in their life? Perhaps you might be such a person too. No one can fault such a person for giving God all the praise and honour and glory, because He makes all things possible. Sometimes, another believer may be looking on and listening however, and comparing their road to this person's. It is after all, natural and human, to wonder: "God, aren't you with me too? Why aren't things working out like clockwork for me too? Does this mean that You aren't with me? Does this mean that You don't favour

"Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. " -Genesis 5:23-24 Has anyone ever told you to take a hike?  They may actually be giving you a compliment.   Traditionally, it was meant as an insult, as walking was considered a necessity for the poor due to lack of transport, but now, hiking has become a sport of choice with enthusiasts from all walks of life. In fact, November 17 has been acknowledged as National Day of Hiking in the USA. Anyone who knows me, knows I like to walk. I am always looking for someone to walk with me or an opportunity to walk, be it in the mountains, on the walking track around the savannah, or even walking through a garden. Walking has many benefits for me. It is a good form of exercise, uses pent up energy, is an effective de-stresser, and it also takes me places where I wouldn't have been able to reach on wheels. I enjoy the forest, being around rivers, waterfal

"Remember what happened long ago, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me." -Isaiah 46:9 105 years ago, on  November 11, 1918, a truce was signed by Allied Nations to end the first World War. It was called Armistice Day (armistice (n): an agreement made by opposing sides in a war to stop fighting; a truce). The date has since been adopted and acknowledged yearly on November 11  (the 11th day of the 11th month) by Commonwealth nations. It is now called Remembrance (or Memorial) Day, as a way to honour the memory of the thousands of fallen soldiers and victims who died during this dark period of History, and the courage and sacrifice of the armed forces as they fought for the peace and freedom that many benefit from today. Curiously enough, the year after the truce was called, the large field of Flanders in Belgium where thousands of the bodies of soldiers would have tragically once lain, was now covered in millions of beautiful scarlet poppy f

"Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed;  Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.  I will abide in Your tabernacle forever.  I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah" - Psalm 61: 1-4 A few weeks ago, while returning downhill from a hike as darkness fell, my friend and I passed a chapel. Usually it is quiet when we pass, but this time, the voices of a group of Christian brothers singing emanated through the open windows and blessed the night air with a spiritual flavour. Accompanied by the sounds of a gentle drum, they were singing the heartfelt psalm of David, as is quoted by tonight's scripture. The words of this psalm resonate with many folks, but it was a unique experience listening to male voices banding together in faith, praising the Lord their Father, their source of strength and help, and echoing the words of a f

Poem - Father, Your children are fighting again

"And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet." -Matthew 24:6 Father, Your children are fighting again.   Dora Seecharan Father God, Your children are fighting again. This war, this sibling rivalry, this eternal antagonism, when will it ever end? Tragic, when we can't even put a finger on who is right or wrong Are both right? Are both wrong? Why does your judgement linger? Perhaps you have been speaking too long. Perhaps to our own devices You have left us. Perhaps You have been parting fights for far too long. Now on our own chosen path we must go down. How sad to see the innocents suffering the consequences of past generations, of current decisions, of incongruent elements. Peace was meant to be free, but the effects of sin divide and conquer us. Now it comes at too high a cost, the price of a life, an arm, legs, family. And the closer we get to the time of the end, The love o
