Tonight's Word 🌱

"Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, Your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O LORD. How precious is Your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of Your wings."
- Psalm 36: 5-7

Have you noticed? For many, 'tis the season for hearts, roses and chocolates, all in the name of love. It truly is a beautiful thing when individuals can go to great lengths to ensure that the one they love feels loved, cherished, secure in and convinced of their love.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote a poem to a loved one, which has always stood out in my memory. It begins with the line: 

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

She then proceeds to describe the depths and limitless bounds of her love. 

Whether we have knowingly found that special someone to love or not, we all have someone who pulls out all the stops when it comes to getting our attention with awesome acts of love. Let us consider the beautiful susnsets, the gorgeous flowers around us, the serenades of birds on a morning, the majestic trees that clean the air for us, the stars that twinkle, the delectable flavours of fruits, the joy of a pet on seeing us, or the companionship of friends and family. The list can go on and on, but by now, you may have guessed right. That someone is our not-so-secret admirer, our heavenly Father, our Creator. The Bible says He loved us so much, that even while we were still sinners, acting against Him, He gave us Jesus.

The psalmist David in our scripture verse for tonight calls this love unfailing, and as any human being can understand, love desires reciprocity. Our God desires for us to love Him back with all our mind, all our heart, all our soul. Have I been benefitting from a love that I haven't been reciprocating? How do I show God that I love Him? Sadly, I feel like I fall short in this area.


We love Him, because He first loved us. Tonight, I want to take the time to reflect on God's love for me. Let's rekindle that first love all over again, and seek out the ways He has shared in His Word that He especially enjoys receiving our love. May we re-establish a loving relationship once again with our heavenly Father, our ultimate unfailing Champion of Love. Enjoy the selction below, which is one of my favorites. Be blessed 🎧🙏🏼

  "And whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would pick up his harp and play, and Saul would become well, and the spirit of distress would depart from him." -1 Samuel 16:23 Did you know that every year, the first day of March is used to acknowledge World Music Therapy Day ? It was specifically set aside to recognize and celebrate the healing power of music. According to the organization 'Percussion Play', "music therapy uses music to reduce stress and improve mood and self-expression through listening, singing, paying instruments or composing music."  I'm sure we can all identify a song or a genre of music that we tend to go to when we are feeling down or need our moods to lift. In fact, music has so much reach that it can also have a negative impact on an individual, causing or reinforcing negative emotions, thoughts or behaviours. Being able to harness the effective healing power of music for good is truly the skill of a music therapist. D

"He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His stripes we are healed."  - 1 Peter 2:24 Have you ever done something wrong? I guess we can all answer a sheepish 'Yes' to that question. How about have you ever done something wrong and watched someone else suffer or be punished for it, instead of you? Now this is where it gets sticky. Not many folk would feel comfortable admitting that they allowed someone to suffer because of their actions, and even worse, that they did nothing about it. It doubles the guilt. After all, it is the general in-built moral compass in most if not all of us, that accepts that the person who does wrong is the one who should experience their own consequences.
